Boiler Upgrade Scheme (£7,500)

The headline grant in England & Wales: £7,500 off an air source or ground source heat pump, applied for by your MCS installer — you don’t claim it yourself. You need to own the property and hold a valid EPC without outstanding insulation recommendations. There is no income limit.

ECO4

For lower-income households and those on certain benefits, ECO4 can fund insulation, heating upgrades and sometimes a heat pump — often at no cost. It is delivered by energy suppliers and targets the least efficient homes.

Great British Insulation Scheme

GBIS helps a wider group insulate their homes (loft, cavity and more), based on your EPC band and council-tax band, or on benefits. It can be combined with other measures.

Scotland

Home Energy Scotland offers grants of up to £7,500 (£9,000 in rural areas) for heat pumps, plus interest-free loans for heat pumps, solar and insulation — often more generous than the England & Wales schemes.

Other help with bills

The Warm Home Discount gives eligible households £150 off electricity bills; there are also Winter Fuel payments and local council schemes. These don’t fund upgrades but help while you plan them.

Am I eligible?

Eligibility depends on the scheme — ownership and EPC for BUS; income or benefits for ECO4; EPC and council-tax band for GBIS. Use the checker below to see which schemes fit your situation; your installer then handles the BUS paperwork.
