I have some questions about Pluto:

1. Does Pluto support fibre channel arrays? If so, which host adapters are supported "out of the box"? I'm specifically interested in support for the QLogic QLA2200.

2. Does Pluto provide or support LTSP thin clients? This would seem to be how the Media Directors are operating, but I'd like to run additional applications (like OpenOffice) from the Core. Is it possible to add such applications to a Media Director's capabilities?

3. When is a Pluto build based on Debian etch expected?

1) Whatever is supported by Debian. There is talks of a switch to Ubuntu

Great, fibre's a great and affordable solution right now for the kind of mass, networked storage Pluto craves.

2) Something along those lines. Its a PXE boot. PXE boot is required in PC'99 for onboard lan, just about any system will support this. The ITX systems seem attractive.

Yes, PXE is a great solution for thin clients. I'd really like to see an option to make Media Directors true thin clients; desktop, apps, shared storage, the works. If the Orbiter could be made to be a window or even a concurrent session, that would open up a whole range of other possibilities.

3) See above. I think what Pluto sees attractive is the Ubuntu LTS not having to deal with distro switches often.

Yes, I can see the attractiveness of Ubuntu's LTS program, but in a way see Pluto (the company) as means to achieve this already within the Debian community. Anyway, I sure hope Pluto stays with Debian, as I'm looking forward to helping along a collaboration between Pluto and Skolelinux (DebianEdu) to achieve a comprehensive educational solution (Pluto SCHOOL? :-) ) combining the device control and media management of Pluto with the systems and personnel management of Skolelinux.
